The Norwegian Military Band
The Royal Norwegian Army band is called Forsvarets musikkorps Nord-Norge (FMKN) in Norwegian.
The band is located in Harstad and has arrangements and concerts every week. They also tours both domestically and internationally. The Norwegian Army Band is thought of as northern Norway’s own band.

The band is made up of approximately thirty musicians and therefore has a variety of possibilities when it comes to repertoire. The Norwegian Army Band North plays everything from heavy rock and hip-hop, through big band to classical music, with one common denominator: quality. Chamber music is also a strong point within the repertoire. Amongst the ensembles you will be able to enjoy are a brass quintet, a Dixieland band, an alto horn quartet, a woodwind quintet, a percussion ensemble and a trombone trio.
The Norwegian Army Band North has attributed greatly to the growth and success of classical music in northern Norway. A major contributor to this progress is the violinist and conductor Arvid Engegård, who in the fall of 2000 took over as the band’s artistic director.
